Welcome

cabinet of wonder (title white)onelinetight

People come from far away,
they come to visit me.
They know that I love Mother Goose
and the Land of Make Believe.
You’re as welcome as can be.

People come from far away,
they come so far to see
my cabinet of wonder
and of curiosity.

Come gather ‘round and see.
You’re as welcome as can be.

This splendid piece of furniture,
rare, as you can see.
This cabinet was handed down
from mother to mother to me.
Come gather ‘round and see.
You’re as welcome as can be.

VIDEO 1
The player situated on the left (above) contains a video for the Cabinet of Wonder theme song. It is preceded by a child narrator named Rosie who appears as a shadow figure. She points out the Cabinet, and explains that it belongs to Miss Natalie. She tells us that children love to visit Miss Natalie because “she knows everything about Mother Goose, Rhyming Town, and the Land of Make Believe.” Rosie invites the children to explore the Cabinet and finishes by saying, “You’re as welcome as can be.”

While Miss Natalie sings our theme song, we see her big beautiful blue cabinet and many of the children in our cast for the first time. We suggest you play the recording of this song, rather than the video, for your class to signal the start of all your Cabinet of Wonder sessions. Children will soon recognize the song and gather in anticipation of their next encounter with the colorful folk of Rhyming Town. The “Cabinet of Wonder” theme song and video will help lay a foundation for the entire series.

The player on the right (above) contains the full hour-long version of the Cabinet of Wonder film. All the music videos and the rhyme teaching sessions with Miss Natalie appear one after another in the order of your teaching guides, in addition to our opening and closing songs, and the shadow puppet play, “Who is Mother Goose?”. This edit of the full film appears here and in the VIDEOS section of this site (at the extreme right).

We suggest you play the full film toward the end of the school year, after you have introduced all the Rhyming Town characters and learned their rhymes and songs. Throw a screening party for the children, their families, and caregivers to celebrate all they have learned from Cabinet of Wonder!
